- Protecting Open Space and Ag Land
Cecilia believes that we must adopt good planning policies that will prioritize preservation of agricultural land, open space, and habitat over continued sprawl and will direct growth toward infill and redevelopment in existing communities to the extent possible. Cecilia will work to preserve Davis as a compact city surrounded by farmland and open space as outlined in our General Plan and supported by the citizens of Davis in our Measures L, J, and O. Cecilia will support and work for making Measure J permanent, in its current form, as a means to protect the people’s right to determine the future of their city.
- Maintaining Strong Public Safety
Cecilia believes that improving public safety and maintaining a high level of city services is essential for keeping Davis the safe, livable and desirable community that it is. Cecilia strongly supports maintaining and strengthening the effectiveness of our police and fire services.
- Promoting Open & Transparent Government
Open and transparent government, where decisions are made with open public participation, is imperative to democracy. It requires strong and passionate community involvement as well as mutual respect for opposing views. Cecilia has been and will continue to be a strong advocate for open government and for the rights of the individual.
- Developing A Green City
Cecilia as councilmember will work toward development of solar and wind power energy alternatives for our homes and businesses, green building requirements, smart building design that utilizes passive heating and cooling, and other alternatives to enhance energy efficiency of all homes and businesses in Davis. Cecilia believes that we must become innovators in environmentally friendly design that will continue to preserve the character of our community. Working in concert with her colleagues on council, Cecilia will strive to develop a green city to make Davis a place that will be the environmental standard that the rest of the nation turns to once again.
- Maintaining Strong and Vital Downtown and Local Business Core
Cecilia believes in promoting, supporting, and maintaining local business as essential to the vibrancy and sustainability of our downtown and our neighborhood shopping centers and to maintaining the unique character of Davis. Cecilia believes in the continued development of our downtown and other local business centers as means to meet the daily shopping needs of Davis residents and a place that can attract people from across the region to our unique character, charm, and experience.
- Preserving the Small-Town Feel of Davis
Some of the things that make Davis unique are the walkability of our downtown, convenience of our neighborhood shopping centers, our vast network of bike lanes and paths providing alternatives to the car. Cecilia will work to ensure that these assets thrive and that we also continue to expand alternatives to the traditional modes of transportation by encouraging development of public transit alternatives and expanded bike lanes within our city. Cecilia seeks to continue to develop Davis as among the leaders in alternative transportation.
- Continue to Utilize our Great System of Parks, Greenbelts, and Open Space
Davis has a great system of parks, greenbelts and open space. Parks are amenities that are enjoyed by people of all ages—both residents and visitors. One of Cecilia’s priorities is to continue to maintain and operate our parks, greenbelts and open space and make them accessible for all people to enjoy while at the same time keeping them safe for our children.
